The Start of our Ranch...We have a long history of Red Angus in our family. Dan’s mother grew up in Eastern Colorado and raised Red Angus cattle since she was a little girl. Dan’s father had a sizable cattle operation in Southern Colorado during his school days. When our family moved to Western Colorado, we decided to get back into the cattle industry.
The first cows we purchased after moving to Western Colorado were a handful of commercial Red Angus cows. Then, we had the opportunity to purchase a small Registered Black Angus Herd. We sold bulls for a number of years but decided that Black Angus is not where we wanted to be. Dan has always had an affinity for Red Angus cows so the decision was made to go 100% Red Angus. We sold the Registered Black Angus Herd and purchased the best Registered Red Angus genetics we could find. Through many sales and private treaty transactions, we established our base herd. For years we tried to add some outside genetics by purchasing some registered bred females in the fall. We also kept a considerable number of our home-raised replacement heifers over the years and have slowly grown our registered herd to the numbers that can be sustained based on the resources available to us. We continue to run a small commercial herd alongside our registered herd. All of our cattle are bred to registered red angus bulls. |
We are a Family run operation... |
We recently moved our family and cattle herd from Colorado to Nebraska. There were many reasons for the move. In a nutshell, we wanted to find a location that was much more ag and ranch friendly and also a place where we did not have to haul cattle back and forth from the mountains every year. We found our new ranch in Nebraska and have been extremely excited to see our cattle flourish in an environment that allows them to perform.
Our family is 100% responsible for the care of the cattle operation. Dan makes the breeding decisions and is also the AI technician. The family is responsible for herd health and we ride through the cattle by horseback on a very regular basis. We move and work cattle by horseback with occasional ATV's being used. From calving to breeding to weaning to development and finishing, we are a family run operation. We also farm some irrigated acreage on our ranch and put up our own winter feed. The development lot for our bulls and heifers is onsite and we source some wet feed from local suppliers. Our development rations are created by local cattle nutritionists based on the goals and parameters we set for our cattle. As always, feel free to contact Dan at any time to discuss our Red Angus cows. He loves to discuss the genetics and EPD’s of the herd. |
